i guess if you are striving for a perfect program you might want to investiage potential bugs, prg318
prg318
absolutely; i was just saying that because it bugs me that i can't reproduce it or understand why it happened :X i still have the terminal where it happened

Yaniel: I think so, thank you

so the default tagging format in beets is for the 'track' to include '## | $tracktitle' ?
or did i somehow set that
(where ## is track number)
ie: title="12 | Three MC's and One DJ"
(i couldn't find this documented, but found it rather odd to be a default
Hi! I would like to download the musicbrainz database to speed up beets. Do I just need the musicbrainz database or do I need to setup a server?
Freso
You need to setup a server.
beets uses the MusicBrainz web service, it doesn't directly ping the database.
(If you'll be using the VM, note that you also want to setup the search server.)

I tried to install following the instructions on https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve... for the last few hours, without visible results. Is it enough or do I need more to be able to do searches?
So mbslave won't do
?

No, mbslave does not have a web service endpoint.
And I don't know if mb-s/.../INSTALL.md has instruction for the setting up the search server.
dosoe
Well on #MetaBrainz they told me just to use the VM

I was going to ask you why you weren't. :)
dosoe
Never used a VM...
btw how are you doing?
Freso
I'm alright. :) Trying to get into "work mode"... I have a couple of blog posts I need to write/make.

Another question about the VM: the file to download is called musicbrainz-server-2016-12-20.ova , does it mean that the VM contains the state of MB of december 2016 and is there a way to update it (even if it isn't)?

Are you working for MB by the way?

Freso: ^
(fyi, highlighting helps people notice your messages)
dosoe
how do you do that?
SuperSeriousCat
Just type their name. A quick way to do that is doing the first 2-4 letters then press tab
Yaniel
dosoe: Say their nick
dosoe
ok thanks SuperSeriousCat Yaniel

dosoe: most IRC clients ping or do something like that when you mention someone. pretty useful :)
of course that doesn't mean people will respond right that moment but at least it adds some hint you're looking for someone :p
Also, I get notifications on my mobile when someone pings me on IRC.
ThomW's mention of me was one of the reasons I loaded up my desktop IRC client again. :)

Freso: there's also the question about the VM updates ;-)
Freso
(Though if you include that actual message, I might react faster. Seeing "Freso: ^" on my mobile gives me no hint what I'm being asked to look at/consider/respond to, which means that I usually just swipe the message away and give it no sense of urgency. :))
(I have yet to use the VM myself, so I don't know too much about its specifics. There are several VM users in #metabrainz, many of which have gone through the schema change upgrade on the VM.)
Freso: (wrt: "$track_no | $tracktitle" trac format) Looks like beets is tagging files properly with just a title in the title. However, I didn't realize that I recently updated ncmpcpp which I believe now inserts a pipe in between track number and track title for lossless files which was really throwing me off
metaflac --list | grep title shows that beets is tagging properly
