        beet ls 'rg_track_gain::^$'
      • that searches everything for tracks where the rg_track_gain field is empty, including tracks that do not have that field at all

is thello, I hacked a little the DateQuery so that I can search with relative dates, like this for instance beet ls 'added:@-3w..@0d' -a
      • now my goal was to use that sort of queries along the smartplaylist plugin, yet a smartplaylist like this one (- name: 'recent.m3u'
      • 0 album_query: 'added:@-1w..@0d') won't be updated as time passes because if I get the smartplugin code correctly, the 'auto' config parameter listen for databases changes, the changes I will have as time passes won't be databse changes but query changes, is there another type of listener I could add to the smartplaylist plugin ?

Hi everyone. I’m trying to import a 30+ CD box with music by one artist to my library. This giant release can be found on MusicBrainz. However, beets doesn’t finish the job when I try to import (maybe my connection is too slow, not sure) and hangs. So I don’t even get to the point where I can enter the release ID. Is it possible to pass a release ID to beets directly with the import command?

wush1: It would be helpful if you could provide the (verbose/debug) output from beets when you try this; https://beets.readthedocs.io/en/v1.4.3/faq.html...
      • It may be a problem on MusicBrainz's side, since huge releases like that are very taxing, so the lookup request may well timeout.
      • beets' log should provide more insight.

        (in a pastebin please)
      • Freso
        ... that is not pastebin.com, please. :)
      • wush1
sure, just a moment. Which pastebin do you prefer?
      • Freso
      • Freso has no preferance other than not pastebin.com :)
      • *preference
      • wush1
        funny, i’ve just had a discussion in #archlinux ;)

      • beet has been running for >10 minutes now, with no music being tagged/imported, without crashing, without showing anything in the log except the time it started. I should mention the release is in flac, it’s 7 GB. The process takes 100% of at least 1 CPU core (top doesn’t differentiate)
      • Freso
        wush1: Everything's fine. Probably.
      • Yaniel
top shows >100% if it's multiple cores
      • Freso
      • wush1: Did you run it as `beet -v`? If not, it won't give you that much output.
      • If you did run it with `beet -v` and there's no output for >10 minutes at all, then something could well be amiss. (If nothing else, there should be more debug level log calls to say what is going on!)
      • wush1
yes, I assume everything‘s fine, but beets hasn’t copied/moved/written any files. Maybe it’s still reading tags or communicating with the MB database

wush1: All that says is that you terminated the process.
      • Did you run it with `beet -v`?
      • Also, what log file?
      • wush1
Yes I did run it with -v, and the log file was created in the specified folder, but it just mentioned the time beets had started, nothing else. I’m retrying at the moment. copied all the flac files from their respective CDxy folders to one folder and reran beets: It’s still running.

      • sampsyo(?)

Yaniel: Images that have been associated with the `fetchart` plugin, which can come from the filesystem or from downloads.
      • Yaniel
oh, fetchart can handle folder.png? neat
      • sampsyo
        Yep.
      • Yaniel
didn't know that so I disabled it
      • sampsyo
You can even configure it to *only* use local art if you like.
      • Yaniel
I have some albums with per-track covers and didn't want to overwrite them
      • can I configure it to not overwrite existing art=
      • sampsyo
        Per-track covers! Fascinating.
      • Yaniel
        and to $filename.{png,jpg} over folder.{jpg,png}?
      • sampsyo
It won't ever overwrite existing images; the file will get renamed if there's a conflict.
      • And sure, there's a config option for that (see the docs).
      • Yaniel
well, I manually set the covers per track on Miracle of Sound's albums
      • darwin
does musicbrainz support per track covers? I bet it doesn't :/
