Is there any way to adjust the suggestions for the tracks that beets makes? Sometimes it gets the albums correct, but a couple of the tracks are switched around.
      • I can't seem to find an "edit mode" where I can fix the tracks that are wrong manually while using the auto tagger.
      • (also, merry christmas, happy holidays, etc.)

      • I have found that usually beets is right
      • could you paste an example of a realeae you're having an issue with, to a pastebin?
      • ebag
sure, I think I may have fixed the issue, I enabled the chroma plugin, and it seems to be working properly now.
      • darwin
hrm... that's an odd way to "solve" the problem but it depends on your input etc.
      • what sort of music are you tagging?
      • ebag
      • you'll see that track 2 (dont_ask_me_to_dance.flac) isn't being tagged properly.
      • darwin
so, first, you're welcome for it printing filenames there :D
      • so.. what are the durations of the two tracks being confused?
      • ebag
They were .wav's that I just encoded as .flacs
      • darwin
        4:01 for don't ask, and 3:57 for "if there's"
      • ebag
darwin: thanks for the filename printing (:
      • darwin
(technically sampsyo programmed it, but I asked for it, lol)
      • but so, generally, 4:01 vs 3:57 should be a "duration" callout on the diff
      • you're sure the tracks are correctly named?
      • did the inputs have track numberS?
      • ebag
hmm... I haven't verified that... no track numbers on the inputs. I'll have to listen to them.
      • maybe the weren't properly ripped from disc?
      • darwin
in my experience, beets and musicbrainz are *usually* actually right
      • and my input is *usually* wrong
      • ebag
that's possible. I'll manually verify them... thanks.
      • should have done that to begin with!
      • darwin
the fact that only "title" differ, but the tracks aren't exactly the same duration
      • is to me a hint
      • (how'd you find beets, if you don't mind me asking?)
      • (noting that this channel is publically logged)
      • jrobeson
        i can't remember how i found beets

darwin: I was browsing the audio section of the OpenBSD ports collection... I think I was just looking for an encoder at the time, and came across beets, and thought... oh, that looks neat.
      • And realized since my collection is all .wav files, I didn't have any decent meta-data, and so I figured I'd try it out to see how it did with tagging my music.

is it appropriate to use beets for one-time processing of lossless input files to transcode to say opus output format?
      • or is there some suggested other software suite which does this more suitably?
      • I did try to use Gnome Sound Converter, and then Python Audio Tools
      • neither did very well
      • jrobeson
you can probably search for an ffmpeg command string to do it quickly
      • shadow
oh okay as a triggered command then
      • jrobeson
        hmm?
