Is there any way to adjust the suggestions for the tracks that beets makes? Sometimes it gets the albums correct, but a couple of the tracks are switched around.
3:34 AM
I can't seem to find an "edit mode" where I can fix the tracks that are wrong manually while using the auto tagger.
3:34 AM
(also, merry christmas, happy holidays, etc.)

I have found that usually beets is right
4:01 AM
could you paste an example of a realeae you're having an issue with, to a pastebin?
4:01 AM
ebag
sure, I think I may have fixed the issue, I enabled the chroma plugin, and it seems to be working properly now.
4:02 AM
darwin
hrm... that's an odd way to "solve" the problem but it depends on your input etc.
4:02 AM
what sort of music are you tagging?
4:03 AM
ebag
4:03 AM
you'll see that track 2 (dont_ask_me_to_dance.flac) isn't being tagged properly.
4:03 AM
darwin
so, first, you're welcome for it printing filenames there :D
4:04 AM
so.. what are the durations of the two tracks being confused?
4:04 AM
ebag
They were .wav's that I just encoded as .flacs
4:04 AM
darwin
4:01 for don't ask, and 3:57 for "if there's"
4:04 AM
ebag
darwin: thanks for the filename printing (:
4:05 AM
darwin
(technically sampsyo programmed it, but I asked for it, lol)
4:05 AM
but so, generally, 4:01 vs 3:57 should be a "duration" callout on the diff
4:05 AM
you're sure the tracks are correctly named?
4:05 AM
did the inputs have track numberS?
4:05 AM
ebag
hmm... I haven't verified that... no track numbers on the inputs. I'll have to listen to them.
4:06 AM
maybe the weren't properly ripped from disc?
4:06 AM
darwin
in my experience, beets and musicbrainz are *usually* actually right
4:06 AM
and my input is *usually* wrong
4:06 AM
ebag
that's possible. I'll manually verify them... thanks.
4:06 AM
should have done that to begin with!
4:07 AM
darwin
the fact that only "title" differ, but the tracks aren't exactly the same duration
4:07 AM
is to me a hint
4:08 AM
(how'd you find beets, if you don't mind me asking?)

darwin: I was browsing the audio section of the OpenBSD ports collection... I think I was just looking for an encoder at the time, and came across beets, and thought... oh, that looks neat.
4:42 AM
And realized since my collection is all .wav files, I didn't have any decent meta-data, and so I figured I'd try it out to see how it did with tagging my music.

is it appropriate to use beets for one-time processing of lossless input files to transcode to say opus output format?
6:41 AM
or is there some suggested other software suite which does this more suitably?
6:42 AM
I did try to use Gnome Sound Converter, and then Python Audio Tools
6:42 AM
neither did very well
6:44 AM

you can probably search for an ffmpeg command string to do it quickly
