Why is it that when I use the --group-albums option, multiple directories are created for each album, with numbers appended to them?

e.g., a single album will be split up into 8-10 directories, with a name like "Album Title 58", "Album Title 54", etc.

Hey everyone! I have an album that isn't in the musicbrainz database, and since my path format is set to $albumartist_sort/$album/..., I want to set the albumartist_sort field to the correct value. beet modify albumartist_sort="value" does some modification, but it doesn't move the files to the correct location, and beet ls -f "$albumartist_sort" doesn't display the changed albumartist_sort field. What is the problem?

I think you said …the problem is that the album isn’t in the musicbrainz database. ;-)

So, no way to set albumartist_sort manually?

Ah, my problem was that I was mis-using the $aunique{} function

So I cant' edit fields in the beets database manually? Makes sense for a clean collection, but it's a bummer for albums not in the database.

Why not just add them to Musicbrainz/

Hm, I'd need to find the physical album. I'll have a look into it.

jeeger: You need to supply the -a flag to the modify command.

(Since you're modifying an album-level field.)

sampsyo, it'd be awesome to add an option to get random albums/tracks with play. what do you think it'd be best?

since we already have the great random plugin, it'd be pretty stupid to duplicate features
