        (guessing ncmpcpp)
      • oloP
        mpd
      • yes ncmpcpp
      • holms
sampsyo: starting a branch with just relocating all attachments, without even having them in library is actually a huge deal :D
      • oloP
        is it a known bug?
      • holms
then you can add filter, then you can add restrictions when spliting directory content..
      • you know .. beta version...
      • point is you still have to move files
      • sampsyo
      • oloP
        didn't see it, sorry
      • sampsyo
        ncmpcpp handles vorbis comments weirdly
      • no problem
      • oloP
        thanks for the link
      • sampsyo
beets tries to maximize compatibility with as many players as possible, but that means that ncmpcpp sees duplicate tags
      • I really wish I could just fix ncmpcpp, but they don't seem interested, unfortunately
      • holms
        oh nice discovery. mpd
      • that what i was searching for!
      • oloP
Yeah, I was thinking the solution you propose is just a workaround, the problem is from MPD

sampsyo: so what do you think about my proposal
      • sampsyo
I'm still worried about expending effort on something that we'll need to throw away soon
      • when we implement the full feature (DB tracking)
      • but I can definitely see it as a plugin (that would then be deprecated)
      • if you're interested in hacking
      • holms
        interested in both actually
      • i just wanna start from something, with your bless
      • sampsyo
sure, I'd be interested to see how it turns out
      • please give it a go if you're so inclined
      • thanks for volunteering! :)
      • holms
        okey :)
      • after i'll some draft, i'll to come ask you about, how do you see a core implementation
      • sampsyo
        sounds good
      • oloP
sampsyo: have you evert thought of using the same web API as subsonic so that we can use all its great clients?
      • sampsyo
and apologies in advance if we end up needing to start from scratch
      • oloP: interesting point. I hadn't even looked at their API -- I wonder how easy it would be to emulate.
      • looks like a sort of messy ad-hoc API, but not hard to duplicate (a subset)
      • oloP
I've already think of making a subsonic plugin for beets, but I'm no dev at all.
      • thought*

sampsyo: does lastgenre being used automatically with import command...?
      • sampsyo
        Yep
      • Unless you disable the auto option
      • holms
        hmz
      • is it possible to disable this with an argument..?
      • no?
      • sampsyo
        No, sorry
      • holms
        can we add this =/?
      • or it's no clear way to implement this..?
      • sampsyo
Yeah, it's actually not straightforward to add new options to existing commands (I.e., import) from a plugin
      • holms
        maybe vise-versa would work
      • hmz probably not
      • jayme joined the channel
      • sampsyo: how to disable import lastgenre? can't find anything in here, or i'm blind : https://beets.readthedocs.org/en/latest/plugins...

      • i would like to add a usecase if possible
      • holms
ask sampsyo :) im newbie in here
      • i'd post a suggestion in issue if i were you..

      • and it just stays where it was =(
      • hmz.. no year is fine
      • jbd_ has left the channel
      • modified genre also. should be moved to genre folder.. stays in place =/
      • sampsyo: can you help me in here?
      • strange incindent
      • sampsyo
zeltak: Go ahead and edit the wiki too if you like. There's no particular organization at the moment.
      • holms: From the lastgenre docs: "To disable automatic genre fetching on import, set the auto config option to false."
      • and what's the other issue you're seeing? can you explain a little more?
      • zeltak
thx sampsyo , added this line, i hope it makes sense:
      • * Enable copy/move of Artist level images to corresponding Artist in beets structure, that is if pinkfloyd.jpg is present in the pink floyd artist folder move it to the pink floyd root level in the beets output
      • sampsyo
I noticed some other comments about that stuff
      • FWIW, "artist-level" is not something that currently makes sense in beets—there's not even technically such a thing as an album directory
      • only a common directory that several tracks (which may or may not share an artist or an album) happen to share
      • we get around this for albums by just using the first track on the album, but this has obvious problems and clearly won't work for artists
      • so if you're interested in doing that, we need a bit more design work—if you get a chance, it would be great to have your thoughts on the wiki about how exactly that would work
      • zeltak
sampsyo: sure will work on it in the next few days
      • #beets [THC,Th,TX,TWX,TeX]
      • sampsyo
        cool, thanks
      • zeltak
thx sampsyo: may i sneak in another Q Re beets? does/will beets support ratings?
      • sampsyo
you can do ratings now if you like
      • beet mod some_song rating=5
      • beet ls rating:4
      • zeltak
will it tag the files as well or just the DB?
      • sampsyo
just the DB, if I recall correctly
      • zeltak
i see, sampsyo did you know there is a standard for floss ratings in music files:
      • sampsyo
        no, that's cool!
      • thanks
      • zeltak
would be cool if beets could use the FMPS_Rating to tag the actual file
      • i know of alot of players (and soon mpd i hope) that use that
      • sampsyo
        totally, I get that
      • would you mind adding a comment to issue #122?
      • zeltak
ofc will do it now np
      • sampsyo
        great
      • zeltak
so sorry for the neewb Q, but do you consider beets just a tagger or a full blown music manager?
      • sampsyo
I consider it a music manager that happens to come with a tagger :)
      • zeltak
sampsyo: very cool, im thinking of moving over ot beets full time to manage my music and push to mpd
      • sampsyo
seems like a great setup to me (and one I've used in the past)
      • zeltak
ive been using mpd last 5 years and love it but it kinda sucks in terms of managing music
      • :)
      • sampsyo
true, it really is mostly a player
      • zeltak
sampsyo: you use the beets player now insead of mpd?
      • sampsyo
I've been using Tomahawk for a while
      • zeltak
tomahawk is great i know, i even spent 2 days with the dev in a kde booth at linux con 4 years agi ..lol
      • *ago
      • sampsyo
        ah, awesome
      • some great people work on that project
      • zeltak
yeah, still i miss alot of my mpd tricks to switch to it full time
      • sampsyo
right, nothing is quite like mpd in that way
      • zeltak
so i wonder if you would consider adding in the future smart lists, dynamin playe etc to beets based on last played, rating etc ? would that be in the scope of beets?
      • sampsyo
yeah, I would definitely like to do that—a sort of souped up version of the "smartplaylist" plugin we currently have
      • a few more tweaks to the query system could make that really useful
      • zeltak
sampsyo: nice, its great there is alot of things planned ahead :)
      • sampsyo
        yes, always planning :)
      • zeltak
really like beets , again thanks for all the effort you put into it
      • sampsyo
if only we all had infinite time
      • thanks!
      • and great, I'm glad it's working well
      • zeltak
yeah time is a bitch :) i have negative time thesedays..lol

      • zeltak
nice :) i wish i could code but i dont know squat, and have zero time to learn
      • i work on air pollution prediction models
      • :)
      • sampsyo
        amazing
      • much more important than the research I do :)
