      • Now I am unable to add numbers to Kazoo. I'm in the first admin account in kazoo-ui and the Add Number button is there, but when I click and add new numbers, they don't show up. Anyone run into this?

osryan , I believe it's pointless to add anything under the master account. You need to create a sub-account first and then do everything under there
      • maybe this has changed recently, I don't know.
      • I remember I was told as much last year

        jde_: word
      • jde_
        hi there.
      • I had a question for you I think but its escaping me
      • not a hard one
      • OH! Have you ever had trouble deleting numbers off a sub-account, even after making sure they weren't assigned to any callflows?
      • stormqloud_
not personally, but I've seen this in the mailing list etc
      • what version are you running
      • 3.19, 20?
      • jde_
I seem to be unable to remove numbers that I've added and that have been used. I have to delete the number document manually, then run the "sup whistle_number_manager_maintenance cleanup_phone_numbers <account_id>" command every time.
      • 3.20
      • it's not a HUUUUGE problem, but naturally I don't see a good reason for a number to fail to be deleted via the API when it's not assigned to anything and I'm running as superduperadmin. Maybe there is a good reason and I just dont know it
      • stormqloud_
there are some commits I have notived in master related to sub accounts and numbers
      • maybe this is a known issue, but I don;t knwo specifically
      • numbers go throguh a "fallow" period. Not sure what kazoo cals it
      • where a number is meant to be in a pool before it can be reassigned
      • ie the client can call back and say "gimme the number that secretary didnt; pay"
      • perhaps the number is caught in this limbo land
      • jde_
        maybe
      • well it doesnt delete off the UI in my case
      • it sticks around in the Number Manager on kazoo-ui and errors out when I try to delete it
      • I dont think theres any real "purgatory" thing going on
      • I would understand going into a reserve pool for a while before being deactivated, but it seems like it should at least be gone from the kazoo-ui number manager panel
      • stormqloud_
there is a number life process chart or flow graph
      • jde_
unless the superadmin can see all numbers always?
      • stormqloud_
it's also possible that this has diverged from v1 to v2
      • jde_
        hm
      • stormqloud_
        ie kazoo-ui to monster-ui
      • jde_
        monster-ui uses a v2 API?
      • stormqloud_
        y
      • jde_
was not aware of that. Thought it was just a UI refresh
      • stormqloud_
so if there is an issue it's going to be fixed in there
      • saratogga joined the channel
      • jde_
        makes sense
      • stormqloud_
well it's up to the open source people to fix the v1 to keep up
      • if they watn it
      • jde_
eh, my java guys are barely getting started. I'll put them on v2
      • no point in starting a fresh project on v1
      • stormqloud_
v2 is what you should use for developers for sure
      • by the time developers finish what they do, the main branch has caought up
      • jde_
the lead dev noticed a distinct lack of a java API library and seemed interested in creating one for general use by the community
      • i should pick his brain more on that
      • stormqloud_
java api isn;t my thing to be honest.
      • http api
      • but java isn't something I know well
      • jde_
im a python guy myself but I have too many other concerns to also be a programmer. And even though Im not a big fan of Java, some of the best software engineers I know are hooked on it. Probably because they came from a C++ background
      • stormqloud_
python, now we can be friends!
      • jde_
so Java "feels" right to them for web programming
      • stormqloud_
y, look at what 2600haz has done with javascript
      • jde_
        yeah. Python uber alles
      • stormqloud_
the good and the bad about javascrpt is "everybody" is an expert
      • jde_
yeah. Its hard to separate the wheat from the chaff
      • I actually almost hired a guy who said he knew a lot about it, turned out to be a complete waste of my time
      • he knew a lot about jQuery. And that was all.
      • Big big difference there.
      • I mean if you are mostly a UI/UX guy and you use jQuery a lot, cool, but don't tell me you are a javascript guru on your resume
      • come on.
      • stormqloud_
I'm 100% not a javascript expert, nor do I ever plan to be
      • jde_
        me neither
      • I dont like javascript as a rule of thumb. It feels and looks messy. I respect people who work with it daily. I can't.
      • Im probably just spoiled on Python though
      • I can read javascript and thats where I stop

I will patch a few lines, but that's the end of it for me
      • jde_
        yep
      • I actually did write a pretty cool HTTPS polycom provisioner in python
      • well, with a lot of help from Django
      • stormqloud_
        seriously? I love django
      • jde_
        yeah. It's a good framework.
      • stormqloud_
I have an entire trunking platrom built on it
      • xml to freeswitch
      • jde_
oh? is that a side-product to your kazoo-based offerings?
      • Im about to set up a few customers who just want SIP trunks and nothing else
      • stormqloud_
it's something have used for many years. It fronts kazoo in my case
      • jde_
I see. I need to experiment with going from an NEC PBX to an Adtan TotalAccess PRI port up to a kazoo SIP trunk
      • stormqloud_
        Adtran!
      • jde_
a couple customers who have expressed interest have PBX's that can handle SIP trunks natively
      • stormqloud_
        now that's old school
      • jde_
but a lot of them around here dont
      • stormqloud_
hehe, I have many channel banks in my life
      • jde_
        yeah
      • I actually really Adtran
      • ....really like
      • stormqloud_
I like adran a lot also
      • I match them to Sangoma cards
      • jde_
#1.... I can actually download firmware updates for my devices even if they are second-hand
      • stormqloud_
I've used this platform to hookup to old pbx many times
      • that cannot handle SIP trunks
      • jde_
        I see
      • stormqloud_
        Nortel, Avaya etc
      • jde_
so you go from the Adtran to a Sangoma channel bank then to the PBX?
      • I honestly havent looked at Sangoma very much
      • I think the last time I even thought about them was in 2008
      • Im sure they have many more product offerings now
      • stormqloud_
sangoma card to the channel bank
      • jde_
        ah
      • stormqloud_
        channel bank to pbx
      • jde_
        ok that makes more sense
      • I was confused for a second
      • stormqloud_
or sangoma pretends to be the CO PRI/T1
