      • batmat
orrc: I'm in the google doc already (or I was a few seconds ago at least :-))
      • I think the robot I vaguely hear far away might be kohsuke :)
      • rtyler
        that's kohsuke alright
      • kohsukebot 5000
      • pradeepto
Hi, can somebody please share the link to the live stream and the google doc? Thanks in advance.
      • batmat

        Thanks.
      • rtyler
batmat: is the volume loud enough?
      • batmat
Yes, but I'd be curious if it's just me, but I can't make out any sentence.

bobby just spoke, was he more understandable?
      • orrc: Gerrit plugin is not in the update center, fwiw
      • alyssat: find the link above?
      • batmat
rtyler: maybe a bit better, but still /hashy/

      • batmat
rtyler: yay, oh good you remind me of it, I wanted to send a thanks
      • rtyler
batmat: I harass people about once a week about that :)
      • batmat
rtyler: :-). Tell them they've only some weeks left before you start doing it daily :D
      • ochosi_
is the pipeline view plugin something else than the pipeline stage view plugin?

      • batmat

rtyler: i'm in the doc. thank you
      • batmat
and then again difficult to grab the whole
      • maybe it's kohsuke being far from the mike, or his voice being too deep :)
      • rtyler
batmat: I moved it 1m closer to kohsuke
      • but he does have a very deep voice
      • rtyler gradually strangles kohsuke's metaphors
      • orrc
batmat: do you have a link to the material design thread?
      • it was mentioned here, but I haven't seen it, and couldn't find it with a quick search
      • batmat
        orrc: sure
      • batmat searches
      • orrc

      • batmat
        i386: hi!
      • rtyler
i386: http://bit.ly/jenkins-contributor-event-fosdem2016 fwiw, we've got a live stream, kohsuke was just mentioning some blue ocean ideas
      • i386
        thanks rtyler
      • Hi batmat, nice to meet you too
      • aheritier
yes i386 he said you’ll save all of us with an awesome new UI soon :-D
      • i386
It's exciting stuff and I'm happy to answer any questions
      • batmat

      • batmat
        i386: can't wait :)
      • i386
Baptiste mentioned on the FOSDEM google doc that it would be great to have a standard theming engine
      • I suspect people wanting a theming mechanism is mostly driven by the poor UI that we have today.
      • rtyler
        i386: batmat == baptiste
      • i386
        ahh
      • :)
      • rtyler
        orrc == chris orr
      • gak, I missed this slide making references to slaves, old habits die hard for kohsuke :P
      • i386
It's a really, really difficult problem to create a theming engine that provides enough customisability and supports all the plugins out there
      • I know a lot of people who use Jenkins in larger companies want it to use the company colors
      • aheritier
i386: I agree. When I used Bamboo a long time ago (don’t repeat it :-) the UI was good enough to not have the need to really customize it (excepted to add your company logo somewhere)
      • i386
        Right
      • orrc is part of the UI problem: I'm pretty sure I wrote some <table> HTML directly into the jelly of one of my plugins
      • rtyler
        YOU MONSTER
      • aheritier
        orrc: rhooooo
      • i386
We had a lot of customers asking for that kind of customisability
      • aheritier
        I did the same :-)
      • i386
and we made it possible to upload a logo and change the header color - most people were happy with just thart
      • s/thart/that/
      • aheritier
i386: yes logo + company colors
      • fredg02
it happens to the best of us ;)
      • i386
I'll be looking at how we can deliver a new Jenkins UI as a fresh and professionally designed app
      • and make it super easy for plugin developers to make UIs that fit well into that (think a bootstrap for Jenkins)
      • orrc
        i386: nice!
      • i386
from what I can see, most plugins add UI to the job configuration page but super popular ones add dashboards for emulating dependant jobs as a pipeline
      • rtyler
        Jenkins UI: Funky Fresh
      • orrc
yeah, most plugin devs aren't really "making UI"; they're adding a bunch of fields in the job config page
      • i386
        rtyler: exactly!
      • batmat
        btw, about slaves/master/nodes/agent https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/pull/2007
      • rtyler: kohsuke ^^^
      • orrc
batmat: thanks. kohsuke said that this work was "underway" and mentioned the new naming, but I hadn't heard about that at all
      • batmat
orrc: btw, wondering how this relates to what I just commented in the doc: worker/clerks?
      • i386
orrc: right on. I think if we can make it super easy and assessable to make a Jenkins plugin contribute to the UI and it feel like part of Jenkins – that would be awesome :)
      • aheritier: at least your Bamboo usage is a secret - I made it :)
      • you can never escape that
      • :)
      • rtyler prepares to +kb
      • orrc
red/blue ocean, "moving the dial"... kohsuke is definitely a C-level executive
      • rtyler
orrc: he started by saying he wanted to "socialize these ideas"
      • orrc
        :(
      • aheritier
        i386: :-)
      • i386

        +1
      • batmat
aheritier: ? you mean in the UI? It's not possible in the code for the currently 2.0 scope?
