      • Hi, I'll leave this question and hope somebody can answer before I leave. I read there are virtual images of Devuan, and they say it has no warranty and such. Is there a release date set for an iso/image to be released? I remember the Devuan developpers wanted to ship a functioning OS by 2015, but I think it wasn't possible, which is understandable, so I wanted to know if Devuan is close to be released, or not, I really want to us

      • Latest version is alpha4
      • They are net install isos

Hi, thank you for your response golinux. I'm just afraid of installing them, I'm eager for the beta release, and was just wondering when it's going to come out, if there's any vague estimative of course.
      • golinux
Many of us have been running Devuan for months with no problems
      • Depends on what you're using it for, I suppose
      • Writing from it now.

I'm happy to hear that, I just want to make it my desktop OS, use it every day, etc. I suppose it's safe, since you have been using it for months.
      • golinux
I'm currently using Devuan most of the time.
      • mark_____: If you want to try a live iso go here: http://refracta.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=...

Very informative, thank you. I don't know if you're one of the developers, but I really wanted to thank them, I was/am afraid about what's been happening and it's good to see developers reacting.
      • And sorry, I'm not used to using IRC, I have no clue on how to send PMs ^^
      • golinux
mark_____: You have a irc version of a PM
      • ksx4system
mark_____, to send pms use /msg nick message
      • also, enjoy Devuan :)
      • mark_____
<not sure if the pm worked>

Learn something new every day. I usually just open a dialog window.
      • ksx4system
        mark_____, yes it dit

Oooo can you send me one too?
      • ksx4system
        did* omg
      • ksx4system should really sleep at least sometimes
      • golinux
That looks like the same as opening a dialog window with the mouse (for those of use who don't type well that's easier).
      • Thanks.
      • mark_____
I'll, thanks ksx. I wasn't liking the idea of moving to BSD. It's not bad, just not for me.
      • golinux
        Devuan is our life raft!
      • ksx4system
        golinux, well said
      • mark_____
Devuan is freedom *paints face half blue*
      • golinux
It is definitely the most appealing option.
      • I find BSD intimidating . . .
      • mark_____: Let us know how your install goes.
      • ksx4system
BSD can be cool (pf on OpenBSD rips iptables to shreds) but it's not as elegant and polished as GNU/Linux currently is
      • golinux
        Bed time here. Later . . .
      • ksx4system
        golinux, good night
      • golinux
        :)
      • mark_____
I'm an average PC user, so imagine how it is for me.
      • Good night and nice to meet you
      • ksx, you're talking to a complete noob. If I start asking questions you'll start rolling your eyes at how amateur they're. pf? iptables? No idea what they are.
      • ksx4system
mark_____, remember that Linus Torvalds (or any other very skilled person) was noob at some time too :)

Now you may ask as to why I care about the init system my OS uses. While I'm not technically trained in Linux's inner workings, I sense something isn't right about systemd being adopted despite the experienced users complaining about it. It's just so fishy, I'm happy Devuan is around.
      • Very true, that goes to everyone at everything I suppose, or so should be.

lol, I am able to circumvent LightDM screen lock with a simple ctrl+alt+f1 then back to terminal 7 ctrl+alt+f7
      • since there's no light-locker (because I've got packages with "systemd" string pinned not to install ever) I'm probably stuck with locking by xscreensaver...
      • kelsoo has quit
      • MinceR
or you could try vlock, i guess
      • ksx4system
MinceR, slock will do the job too but I have to find out how to convince LightDM to kill it after successful login
      • ksx4system prefers suckless.org tools whenever possible/profitable
      • MinceR
        :)
      • ksx4system
I should use some lighter DM anyway...
      • golinux

        of course
