my ssh key was added into my .ssh setup using ssh-add, so I didn't have to specify the key
cheeseplus
right, it'll use system stuff if it's there
gromble
whew. That was absolutely obnoxious. I've been trying things and reading docs for most of the day. On the bright side, it's efforts like this that ensure that you Don't Forget how to do it
Thank you, cheeseplus
sometimes it just takes another set of eyes

Now that I got the simple case in, let me try scripting an ec2 instance install on the fly

I think bootstrap has flags for that. I saw them while I was pawing through docs today.

And, I think the Learn Chef documentation on the bootstrap a node needs a wee tad of work to make those flags just a bit clearer
Do you guys know if there's somewhere I can drop a line to the doc maintainer for that site?
cheeseplus
gromble: well in the learnchef material we give you your own instane

to mitigate exactly this kind of issue

gromble
that's true, it just kept crapping out on me
cheeseplus
so the example you were borrowing from didn't fit the use case but they do take feedback on the site

true. However, I have to say, going through it the hard way actually makes me understand what's going on under the covers more
Thanks again.
cheeseplus

Thanks, I'll drop them a line. But make it clear that I was not using the provided instance so I probably shot myself in the foot.

Hi z0mbix, if you use a later version then you can get multiple roles in chef-solo
Hi gromble, I am new to use chef and I would like to use chef-solo in my next projects with Vagrant, Can you indicate me a good doc about chef-solo + vagrant for beginners?

hmm, I'm kind of new to chef myself. I just found that document that mentioned you need something more than chef 11.0.8
