Question: if I have a standard Python email.message.Message instance, is there any way I can put that through Django's email system?
      • Any kind of straighforward conversion? Need to preserve headers and such.
      • FunkyBob
given Django's email system is a very light wrapper around Python's.... I'd say your changes are good

in a generic view derived from DetailView, how can I set the template based on whether or not request is ajax or not?
      • Where and how do I check and set that
      • PyTux
does django cache templates? mine dont seem to update...
      • FunkyBob
there isn't a get_template method or some such?
      • dvl` has quit
      • schinckel
PyTux: IIRC, django _will_ cache templates. You can disable the caching of templates in settings.py
      • FunkyBob
schinckel: it will if you enable the loader
      • schinckel
        There we go: TEMPLATE_LOADERS = (('django.template.loaders.cached.Loader', (, ...
      • FunkyBob: That doesn't come turned on by default?
      • FunkyBob
        no
      • schinckel
Personally, I have it turned on, and then turned off in development.
      • Fervicus
FunkyBob: I'll check that. One more question. In a generic view when I say class Foo(DetailView): and in the next line I say model = Foobar
      • what exactly is that statement in context of python?
      • Because it's not in the constructor
      • or in a class method

      • PyTux
woah that sucks, how do i disabe that freakin cache? the 'dummycache' has no effect and i cant even bypass it by restarting apache

      • sfz
mattmcc: Ok, that makes sense, thanks. Guess I shouldn't bother waiting then and just get started on my new project :)
      • mattmcc
        Heh, no.
      • You can just use South in the mean time.
      • sfz
Yeah, have used South before, was just excited about having it all incorporated
      • Hopefully there will be a relatively straightforward way to lose the South dependency when upgrading to 1.7

schinckel: I read your article and got ajax working except I am using generic views. How do I handle invalid forms?
      • twoolie
I have a formfield defined as `forms.MultipleChoiceField(required=False, choices=FIELD_CHOICES , widget=forms.CheckboxSelectMultiple)` however the value it returns is always the value of the last-checked-box. Does anyone know if this is a known bug? FunkyBob? mattmcc?
      • Fervicus
I want to show errors like normal forms
      • mattmcc
twoolie: Models don't know how to store multiple values in one field, you have to tell it how.
