I'm making a site where users have their own rooms and can play raw videos on internet or drag and drop a file from their computer and it uses webtorrents to seed the video to all other people in the room, just curious if you guys think thats a cool idea or not
and it plays the video in sync, room owner controls pausing/playing vid and seeking time
anyone can play their own videos though
and it seeds to everyone else

What are you doing on the web end?
Signaling to set up the webtorrent?
I assume a webtorrent is a webrtc thing

just phoenix channels on backend
ya webtorrent is webrtc

webtorrent creates a torrent on front end and then just sends the magnet URI to phoenix channel which sends it to everyone else in the room and then on front end they use that URI to download

bobbertson: That actually sounds pretty useful!

im surprised something like it doesnt already exist
right now play/pause video events send a message over phoenix channel to others in room
however it seems hit or miss when you quickly play/pause/seek
besc
I know something similar exists for watching YouTube videos, but this skips the upload step
bobbertson
i think im going to change it so it just checks every 2/3 seconds for the current time and whether its paused or played from host and then transmit that to everyone else
ya youtube sync already exists
the youtube events for pausing/playing/etc work a lot better than HTML5 video element events
